Peace Within Our World

Is peace within our world possible? How so? Don reminds us that the Prince of Peace will one day bring peace to this world.

Peace in our World

Will there ever be peace within our world? We hear of wars and rumors of war as the scripture says, and they continue to come at us. In fact, Charlie Brown had something to say, that has a lot of truth in it, in the peanuts cartoon.

Lucy asked Charlie, “do you ever worry about the world getting blown up Charlie Brown?” Charlie says “well, it all depends what day is it?”  Lucy says “it’s Tuesday. Well on Tuesday, I work but I worry about personality problems. Thursday is my day for worrying about the world getting blown up.”

Worries in our World

It’s true, there’s a lot to worry about in our world. There’s so much fighting and devastation. But when we look to the Christ, who came at Christmas, there is hope. Isaiah 9:6-7,

“A child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will rest on his shoulders. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of his government or of peace on the throne of David and over his kingdom.” Isaiah 9:6-7

Christ the Baby, Christ the King

Christ came as a baby, and he will come back as a King, he will come back as the Prince of Peace. Peace is coming into our world, by way of the prince who will bring peace, the presence of peace will ultimately come into our world through him. When he comes back, and there’s two stages to that – he’ll come back to rapture His saints and then there’ll be seven years of terrible tribulation.

But then Christ will come back and in Isaiah 2:4, we are told,

“He will judge between the nations and will render decisions for many peoples. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they learn war.” Isaiah 2:4

Zechariah 9:10 says,

“he will speak peace to the nations and his dominion will be from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.” Zechariah 9:10

The Prince will one day bring peace into our world.

Entering the Millenial Kingdom

What a wonderful reality. Now of course, in order to be a part and enter into the Millennial Kingdom you must first know the Lord Jesus as your Savior. And if you’ve trusted him, whether you die in this world and go to be with the Lord or he raptures you up, we will come back with him as he rules over this world. We have much to look forward to.

Longfellow’s Words

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow tried to capture the joys of the Christmas season amidst personal tragedy. He began writing a hymn with,

“I heard the bells on Christmas Day, their old familiar carols play and mild and sweet their songs repeat of peace on earth goodwill to men.”

But that did not seem to be what was going on, his beloved country was at civil war. The Battle of Gettysburg had not long been past, everything looked dark.

Therefore we have the words,

“and in despair, I bowed my head, there is no peace on earth, I said, For hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, goodwill to men.” Wadsworth

Doesn’t that sound a lot like today? Where’s the peace? Then apparently, Mr. Longfellow fellow turns his heart toward God, the only one who can get real peace. And he wrote these words,

“then rang the bells, more loud and deep. God is not dead, nor does he sleep, the wrong shall fail the right prevail with peace on earth, goodwill to men.” Wadsworth

Peace With God Through Jesus

Only the Lord Jesus can give peace with God, peace with those around and peace within us.  He alone will bring peace upon this world. In our pursuit of peace, we find it by trusting in the Prince of Peace. I certainly hope that is true for you.

Maybe you’re surrounded by circumstances that are creating tremendous anxiety. But I just want to point you to the Christ who came at Christmas. For He is the one who can give peace to your heart when you trust in Him as your Savior. And then by trusting him throughout the rest of your life. Daniel 4 states, “may your peace abound.” And then in the New Testament, in 1 Peter 1:2,

“may grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure.” 1 Peter 1:2

Don’s Prayer

I would like to pray for you, for God’s peace to abound in your life. Let me pray.

“God, you know each person that’s reading or listening right now, and you love each one, you love the world. I want you to remind them that you love them. You know what they’re going through, you know the anxiety they’re facing, the hurt they feel and you love them.

We live in a sinful, broken world. And we’re not getting out of here without bruises. But we thank you that we can know God through the Lord Jesus, we can know our Heavenly Father through you, Lord Jesus, we thank you that you are the one that gives us peace with God and provides the provision for peace with those that we are among, and peace within our hearts, and ultimately peace that will be a part of this world.

I pray that everyone first and foremost has trusted you as their personal Savior. And then all of us will know you more and more as the Prince of Peace who brings peace into our lives. And I pray this prayer with Peter, may your grace and peace be upon each person, reading or listening, in fullest measure. God we ask this in the name of your precious son, the Prince of Peace.”
