Lenten Reflections: How Do You Focus On God’s Word?
How do you reflect on God’s Word? Are you a visual learner? Or do you focus better with music and sounds? Janis shares her Lenten reflections on John 1 and 2 through the medium of poetry.
Lenten Reflections Through Poetry
As I study God’s word this Lenten season I like to journal, to write poetry and to draw pictures.
Here are 4 short poems that I have written to give me a remembrance of John 1 and 2.
They are a butterfly type of poem with 9 lines, starting with one word, growing each line to 5, then decreasing back to 1.
I would suggest you close your eyes while listening to each poem, except, of course if you are driving.
Lenten Reflections From John 1: 1-34
Light
Came, shone
In the darkness
That all might believe.
“Look the Lamb of God
Come down from Heaven
God’s Chosen One”
God revealed
Jesus
Lenten Reflections From John 1:51
Gates
Shut tight
Can’t come in
God knew the problem
Sent His Son to earth
Crucified, dead, risen, alive
Heaven’s gates opened
We’re free
Salvation
Lenten Reflections From John 2: 1-12
Jesus
Stone jars
Filled with water
He turned into wine
First of the miraculous signs
Glory of God revealed
His disciples believed
In Him
Lord
Lenten Reflections From John 2:13-25
Zeal
The temple
Cleansed, coins scattered
Fury of Jesus revealed.
“I will raise it again.”
Raised from the dead
His Body broken
For us
Freedom

Because I see in pictures, these type of poems helps me focus on one picture.

In addition to a career as a home-maker and teacher, Janis was a partner in a Canadian small business with her husband, Wayne. They currently reside in Ontario and winter in Mesa, Arizona. Janis and Wayne have three children with spouses and many grandchildren.
