My Utmost For His Highest

I love reading Oswald Chambers’ devotional, My Utmost for His Highest. When I first started reading to read his thoughts I will admit I didn’t understand half of what I read. But over the years of reading Scripture and Oswald’s devotionals I have come to a better understanding of most of what he says.

I do understand it better but that doesn’t mean I live it.

How Can We Come To Jesus?

On August 19th’s devotional, Oswald says: “Nothing is important as to keep right spiritually.”

My goodness – Nothing – that means no thing in my life is more important than my connection with God.

Jesus says in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest.”

He doesn’t say for me to plead and worry myself. He wants me to put myself aside. He wants me to reside in Him. When I do that, – reside in Him – my shoulders drop and I breathe deeply. I slow down. I am quiet and can listen to His voice. Becoming REAL before Jesus means to allow Him in. It means letting go of me.

Release Everything To Jesus

Oswald says: “Self-consciousness is the first thing that will upset the completeness of life in God.”

To me REAL – R.E.A.L. has come to mean Release Everything to Jesus And Live.

Oswald also says: “In every degree in which we are not real, we will dispute rather than come.”

When we come to Jesus we need to get rid of ourselves (our plans, our hopes, our agendas; our struggles, our fears and our worries). And then we can COME. That is how we become REAL in our relationship with Jesus.

It won’t be easy. There will be setbacks. But if we pursue this, our souls, minds and bodies will thank us and peace will arrive.
