2020 Nonfiction Reading List

Steph Nickel’s Nonfiction reading list for 2020 is a long one, full of variety, and interesting topics. She intends to read 12 nonfiction books this year.

What is on your nonfiction reading list for 2020? Comment below or contact us at HopeStreamRadio.

My Reading Plan for 2020

Last time we discussed the novels I would like to read next year. I mentioned that list would likely change—and I’ve already been reconsidering some of my choices. That said, I still intend to read at least one novel per month.

Fearless in 21 Days

I also intend to read or reread the follow 12 nonfiction books. (My hope is that I’ll read 18-24 nonfiction books, but we’ll see how that goes.)

A special young lady and I intend to work our way through Sarah E. Ball’s Fearless in 21 Days.

A portion of the blurb on Amazon reads this way:

In the summer of 2013, family and friends watched helplessly as author Sarah E. Ball spiraled into the darkest season of her life. A passionate woman of God, wife, mom of five, and popular blogger, Sarah nevertheless found herself abruptly taken captive by a severe anxiety and panic disorder that left her bedridden for months. Those around her were shocked at her fast derailment because she had always been a very strong, dependable woman. With time and perseverance, her determination and faith in God led her out of anxiety and into a place of complete freedom.

I look forward to studying Sarah’s book.

Relentless: The Unshakeable Presence of a God Who Never Leaves.

I first discovered Michele Cushatt on the podcast “Communicator Academy.” Her personal story drew me in from the get-go. I am eager to read her newest book, Relentless: The Unshakeable Presence of a God Who Never Leaves.

These are the first two paragraphs on the back cover:

How do you hold on to faith when it seems God Himself is gone? In struggle, illness, death, or failure, pain causes us to question God’s presence. We pray and watch the sky for proof of God’s nearness. And in the quiet that follows, we fear the worst: abandonment. But what if we could find evidence that God hasn’t left us? From the first page to the last, Scripture shines with a single, extraordinary theme: God is with us. Ours is a God who speaks through burning bushes, leads through pillars of fire, and responds to a broken world by giving all of Himself.

Like Sarah Ball, Michele Cushatt is the real deal. She opens up and authentically shares not only the victories but also the very real struggles of life, some of which are still part of her daily life.

Self-Publishing for Canadians

Early in the new year, I would like to reread Sarah Ettritch’s Self-Publishing for Canadians, as I hope to publish the first in my Nurture and Inspire series, tentatively called Nurture and Inspire Love. I also hope to publish my first novel. At this point, I am considering calling it Drawn Away or Becca’s Choice.

I would like to read Overwhelmed and You Don’t Have to Try So Hard, both by Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory. I have reviewed them before but have never gotten through them in their entirety. (I’m too easily distracted by shiny new book covers.)

A Couple of Other Books

A couple of other books I have spoken about previously but plan to read in 2020 are Amy Carroll and Cheri Gregory’s book, Exhale: Lose Who You’re Not, Love Who You Are, Live Your One Life Well and Sharon Hodde Miller’s Nice: Why We Love to Be Liked and How God Calls Us to More.

I would like to reread Kevin DeYoung’s Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book about a (Really) Big Problem. It’s ironic that I’ll have to make time to do so.

Four More Books on the List

So, that leaves me with four more books to add to the list.

I’ve barely made a dent in Margaret Feinberg’s Taste and See but thoroughly enjoyed what I have read. So, I’ll add this book to my list.

I should also finish Jim Kukral’s Your Journey to Becoming Unskippable. It’s so much more than a marketing book! I’ve read over half of it, but I’ll likely have to review the highlights of what I’ve read before continuing.

Since I’ve begun sending out my newsletter, I suppose I should finally get around to reading Kirsten Oliphant’s Email Lists Made Easy. I also have access to so much of Kirsten’s info online.

As I was scanning a few of the books on my Kindle app, I came across Successful Self-Publishing by Joanna Penn. So, I will place that as the last book on my To Be Read in 2020 pile.

Six More Nonfiction Worth Reading

Here are another six nonfiction books I would like to read in the coming year. It may be wishful thinking, but it gives me something to aim for. Again, many of these titles you will already be familiar with if you’ve been listening to my reviews for a while. But, hey, I don’t read all that fast and there are only so many hours in the day.

I would like to thoroughly go through Kathi Lipp’s Clutter Free as well as her newest book, The Christmas Project Planner.

I’d also like to take a couple of hours and read Born On a Boat: Mom’s Story. This book was written by Wanda Bakker about her dear mom, a lady who attends my church.

I would also like to read Beth Duewel and Rhonda Rhea’s Fix Her Upper: Reclaim Your Happy Space and Jen Wilkin’s Women of the Word.

I may also reread Rebecca Dekker’s Babies are Not Pizzas: They’re Born, Not Delivered. As a birth doula, I want to keep my knowledge and skills up-to-date.

And the plan is to finish Beth Duewel and Rhonda Rhea’s 90 Day Fix Her Upper Devotional as well as rereading Rico Tice’s Honest Evangelism before the end of this year.
